Self-help initiatives for the newly diagnosed
FMSupport was born out of frustration. A frustration that, on being diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, patients were sent away and left to get on with it.
You've got FIBROMYALGIA - now what?! was the first information leaflet we produced. It is now in its second revision and is being used by some medical professionals in South West Essex. We hope that it may soon be given to all newly-diagnosed patients.
Although written with the newly-diagnosed in mind, the leaflet has also been warmly recieved by those who have had Fibromyalgia for some time but not known how to go about helping themselves to get better.
Information in our self-help guide has been adapted from material originally prepared by and copyright ©Jean Crossley, Yorkshire & Humberside Fibromyalgia Regional Consortium. Otherwise this leaflet and its design is Copyright ©2008, FMSupport & PuzzledWorld, and may not be reproduced without permission.
If you've just found out that you have Fibromyalgia Syndrome (FMS), then you've probably also found out that there is no wonder-cure. You may be feeling that you're being left to get on with it, without much information, advice or support from medical professionals. You may have lots of questions and feel quite alone and confused.
This leaflet was designed to help you to put together your own 'self management plan'. Before you get to that though you might take comfort in knowing that over 2% of the population are likely to develop fibromyalgia; and that it accounts for 1 in every 5 referals to the Rheumatology department within Basildoin & Thurrock.
You're not alone. FMSupport is here to help you! So here they are, our 12 'Self-help initiatives' for the newly diagnosed:
